Will Vinton

One of the few positive memories i have about my former life in Portland, was attending the Portland Creative Conference A collection of speakers from all area's of the entertainment industry. Chuck Jones, legendary cartoonist who helped to bring us Bugs Bunny, Pepe Le Pew and many others spoke. i was so in awe of him, i couldn't find the confidence to approach him for an autograph. Martin Sheen, long before The West Wing spoke. And when i went up to get his autograph, he was filled with such powerful positive energy. Rick Baker, award winning make-up artist spoke. He talked about working with Michael Jackson's Thriller video. Matt Groening, the Simpson creator, at the height of the cartoon's fame. He drew a picture of Marge Simpson for m with his autograph. Diane English, Murphy Brown creator, lounging on sofa to inspire the audience. We saw the movie, Mr. Holland's Opus, with Richard Drewfuss and Glenne Headly, a movie filmed in Portland, a year before it was released. i went for two years, and it will forever be an experience that truly moved me and i wish i had taken the energy and better embraced it for my life. ... ... ... The Portland Creative Conference was founded by Will Vinton, who was riding high on the success of the California Raisins and getting ready to go higher. A very approachable man, as famous for his smile and his mustache as he was for his claymation. Will Vinton had died at the age of 70. i'm amazed of the memories rushing within me at 3 am after hearing this news. Normally, other than SADDI, i rarely think about Portland. But this was truly a very special highlight to my life. Thank you Will Vinton.
