Holiday Giving

 Holiday Gifts
please give a little thought to what you give

maybe don't give a diabetic,
with an amputation who has been home bound for months, sweets.

Just take a moment and consider before you give.

It started to snow this morning in Seattle. As i sat in my wheelchair on the front porch, enjoying the beauty, i started to cry. i remembered how much SADDI loved the snow. She turn into a completely different doggie whenever it snowed, even if it was just a light dusting. In her last year of life, we had a couple of serious snow storms and SADDI loved every minute of it.

Because of the wind, we had 2 foot snow drifts around the house. SADDI would go outside to go to the bedroom and she would slowly sink into the snow as she peed.

Even though Devon and i were freezing, we stayed out as long as possible because we knew how happy SADDI was.

She tried to catch snowballs we'd throw at her. She's chase us. And it was so beautiful watching the pure white snow falling and collecting on her thick black fur.

i miss SADDI so much. She always knew how to make me smile when all i wanted to do was cry.

After some fun in the snow, SADDI would come home ready to be wrapped in her favorite blanket.

i love you so much SADDI

SADDI taught me to be a better human,
more appreciative and patience.
Well, patience wasn't something practiced,
especially when i wanted to do silly photo's.
i set up the picture,
woke her from her nap
and had her sitting up looking so adorable.
But she got bored, quickly.
And wasn't thrilled when i couldn't stop
laughing at how precious she looked.

SADDI wasn't happy even getting her feet wet, but she was close to me, so she put up with a little of it.  Until a tiny wave rolled in and then she pulled me out of the water.  For such an average sized doggie, SADDI had incredible strength, especially when chasing a squirrel to run up a tree, scattering a flock of birds or to get out of the water.  It was that chow stubbornness.

SADDI barking at the water i guess was her way of saying she didn't like it.

The holiday season always flood me with memories, some beautiful and others i wish could disappear from my memory.  But i thrive on even the simplest memory of SADDI, she always brought me so much love, devotion and happiness.

i miss SADDI so much.

A New Day

This is how my day begins

Squirrel Friend

i'm worried they'll learn to ring the doorbell
then i'll never get any rest.
If i'm not there when they are hungry,
they sit outside looking in the house.
waiting for me.

HuH?

My squirrel friend,
hidden in the tree,
is saying something,
but i don't speak squirrel.

Thanksgiving 2001, it was the first Thanksgiving that it was just SADDI and i.  My family had disowned me 4 years earlier and i had just found the courage to kick out my abusive ex ( he actually came over the night before Thanksgiving to remove all his belongings). Emotionally i wasn't in the mood for celebrating and it rained, heavily, all day so we couldn't go for a long walk.  So SADDI and i stayed inside our small apartment, i fixed an egg sandwich for my dinner and added some eggs to SADDI's.  We played and cuddled.  Enjoyed a restful nap.  i spent too much time online chatting with others who were alone for the holidays.  But because i was with SADDI, it's a Thanksgiving i truly cherish.

Later years, when i did make a turkey, just for the two of us, SADDI  and i were able to take long walks and then we had Devon join us.

In 2009, SADDI had been gone since August, but on Thanksgiving it really hit me that we weren't together anymore.  As the house filled with the scent of turkey, i remembered SADDI stretching her head to take in the smell and how she would always stand right next to me as i craved the turkey in case i "accidentally" dropped a few pieces.

i really miss SADDI so much, but i am also so very thankful for the 13.5 years we did have together.

The day after SADDI died (08/09/09),
i went to the airport, alone, to do some writing.
i went to the airport, filled with people,
knowing it was not a place where i could cry
... and crying was all i wanted to do.
On my way there, walking downtown and on the lightrail,
i just wanted to stop and tell everyone
about SADDI and how much she means to me.
Watching people pass me on the street,
i realized life goes on,
but i honestly didn't want it to without SADDI.
Even to this day, over 7 years later,
whenever i get a chance to talk about SADDI to someone,
i do so.
i only hope, even through my tears,
they will know how very much i love SADDI
and miss her more everyday.

You'd think i'd learn my lesson ...
'don't tease the doggie'
... but it was always so much fun being barked at or chased by SADDI
... and she loved it to
i miss you baby girl

We begin with Spoiled Squirrel num numming
on some peanuts as we scroll over
to the still cautious Baby Squirrel wanting a peanut.
Once the baby gets the courage to come eat a peanut,

i wasn't feeling well,
so i laid down on the sofa.
SADDI, always wanting to take care of me,
in her special way,
got up onto the sofa,
despite there barely being enough room for me,
and made herself comfortable.

Moving Forward

Just like a little kid, SADDI always liked playing in the fall leaves. We lived on a street with large trees that were so amazing this time of year with leaves dancing to the ground. Autumn was SADDI's, like me, favorite season. The weather was more comfortable, except for the rainy days. And the leaves were so much fun to play in. One night while walking in the campus of PSU, SADDI stuck her head into a large pile of leaves and quickly jumped up. In the silhouette of the autumn light, i mouse was seen, almost animated, flying and flipping into the air. SADDI attempted to chase after it and every night we went back to that area, and that pile of leaves was still there, SADDI tried to search for the mouse.
i miss you so much baby girl.
