The first time i watched the movie Notting Hill, SADDI was sitting next to me on the love seat. i had a bag of microwave popcorn and every bite i took, i gave SADDI some popcorn. i remember i tried not to cry during the movie, it really bothered SADDI to see me crying (she had seen a lot of it during the betrayal of my family and the 4 year abusive relationship i was in). i was so into the movie, popcorn wasn't even in my thoughts. When i looked over at SADDI, she was looking up at me with her beautiful loving eyes. So i gave her a handful of popcorn, which she quickly ate up. But then she got up to get some water, soon returning and looking up at me as she sat on the rug. i gave her another handful, but it wasn't popcorn she wanted. She was just concerned about me. With popcorn scattered on the rug in front of her, SADDI just walked away and went to bed. i continued watching the movie and when it was done, i was on the rug picking up the popcorn she didn't want. i went into the bedroom, where SADDI was laying, and just held her. No words. After a few minutes, i went back out and watched the movie again. Since that day, i have likely watched Notting Hill over a hundred times. Whenever i have popcorn, i want to share it with SADDI and have her sitting next to me.

i'll never forget the christmas i received this picture. i was sitting on the bed, SADDI seated next to me, leaning against me as she always did, and Devon handing me a large package and then sitting next to me. i opened the gift with great excitement because i knew it was a painting from Devon, but no idea what it was. i was in shock. Devon Yan perfectly captured SADDI, her eyes, her look, her attitude and the picture even brings out her soft fur. i put my arms around SADDI and showed her the picture. Of course, i cried. As i do everyday when i now look at this picture. Never in my life have i ever received such an amazing gift, that truly means so much to me. That moves me so deeply. i could scare at this pictures for hours and truly feel as if SADDI were still with me.
Squirrel Friends
i'm concerned about one of my squirrel friends,
he seems to be having a difficult time standing.

When i ran for Portland City Council, i ensured SADDI was with me as much as possible. With 15 other people running, i needed something special to help me stand out. And SADDI was always the best part me. She still is. i had a sign made, that SADDI wore as we walked the streets of Portland. She loved the attention. We walked through all the street fairs, putting in miles every weekend. SADDI loved the long walks, but when we got home, she always went right to bed. One day, while waiting to cross the street, i woman noticed SADDI and the sign she was wearing and said she'd rather vote for SADDI because she was likely more qualified than any of the others running. Well, i didn't win, not that i actually expected to, and i am sure the votes i did received were all possible because of my campaign manager ... SADDI.

When insomnia takes over me (as it has tonight), i use to just lay there and watch SADDI sleep. Her head rest on my arm, i would watch her nose twitch and soft high pitched barks as she would be dreaming. i wanted to rub her belly to comfort her, but i worried it would wake her. Her four paws would start moving as if she was dreaming that she was running. i always wonder what she was dreaming about. Maybe chasing horses or running on a sandy beach, two things i knew she loved so much. After a while, she would relax and just sleep peacefully. But i would continue to watch my beautiful baby girl sleep.

We're coming up on SADDI's favorite season ... autumn. The weather is cooler and there are lots of leaves that she would play in. Either me tossing them at her or she would stick her nose into a pile of leaves. One late night at the college we would always go to, SADDI put her nose into a pile of leaves and quickly lifted her head. The silhouette of a mouse spinning through the air, it truly looked animated. When the mouse came back down to the ground you could hear it running away. But SADDI was still curious as to what had just happened. For the next several nights, SADDI would always go to that pile of leaves, until one night they were gone.
