EXTRA!!! EXTRA!!! READ ALL ABOUT IT

S A D D I

Our first day together, i realized SADDI hated getting wet.  i was bathing her in the sink, she stood up on her back legs, her front paws resting on my chest as her sharp nails dug into me.  As the years went on, i had to take a bath with her.  She would cry the entire time.  When i turned off the water, i begged with her to shake while we were still in the shower.  She refused.  So i lifted her out of the shower and as soon as she was on the bathroom floor she would shake.  Her thick black fur releasing water everywhere.  (It took a while for me to learn, but finally, before our baths, i learned to hide the toilet paper so it didn't get soaked)  i would dry her off, as best as i could and then she would run and jump on the bed while i finished my shower.  When i finished, SADDI, still damp, was laying on the pillows, glaring at me. ... Even when we came back from walks and she got wet from the rain, she would stand just inside the house and wait for me to get a towel before she fully entered.  (Something else i learned was to always have a towel by the door so she didn't have to wait).

Rest in Peace lil Friend

i will miss you so much

Our New Normal

Our new normal. Because the other squirrels bully her, my Special Needs squirrel friend sits under the shed, about 15 feet from the porch, where i toss the daily treats. She sits there and waits for me to toss her treats. i think she maybe partially blind, she often struggles to find the treats unless they are close to her. She know when the other squirrels aren’t around, that’s the only time she comes to take treats out of my hand now. Yes, i do spoil her because i relate to her struggles.

S A D D I

Last night, SADDI visited me in my dreams again. It didn't start off very well though. The beginning of the dream was of the last moments i shared with SADDI. As the doctor was about to give her the shot that would release her from the evils of cancer, i whispered in SADDI's ear how much i love her and thanking her for rescuing me. SADDI, extremely weak, lifted her paw and placed it on my hand ... and then she was gone. i woke up, tears had filled my closed eyes. i turned on the TV to finish my sleep with distracting noises. But as soon as i fell asleep again, SADDI returned to my dreams with happier times in life. i saw us walking to the park, playing in the tennis court, sitting on a bench watching the stressed college students passing us. SADDI smiling, giving the students a moment to enjoy the beauty of a beautiful doggies smile. i saw SADDI and i at the bench, as she ran circles around me, playing in the sand. ... i know, where ever SADDI is, she knows how alone i am in this life, so she visits me, giving me hope to wake up. ... When i did finally wake up to begin the new day, my first thought was how truly blessed and thankful i am to have known love and friendship, and though SADDI and i have not been together for 8.5 years, i know in my heart she is with me forever. Whenever i feel down and hopeless, all i have to do is reach out for a cherished memory of my life with SADDI and i am filled with a powerful sense of peace. A peace that allows me the confidence to wake up to the known reality of tomorrow.
Thank you SADDI.

My Special Squirrel Friends

i found out that i actually have two special needs squirrel friends.
The other squirrels only seem to bully one of them. The other squirrels are jealous, because i spoil my special friends more. No worries, they all get treats.
