When i ran for city council in Portland, my campaign manager and only volunteer was SADDI. i had a two small signs made, and strapped on both sides of SADDI. We walked the streets of Portland every weekend and she wore the signs every night during our walks. SADDI loved the attention. One day, we walked to the Hawthorne street fair, about ten miles total, and SADDI did her usual proud bouncing walk. i think all the attention she received gave SADDI the energy to keep going. i was one of 16 candidates, so i always looked for a way to stand out. The last two miles, SADDI slowed slightly, but kept going. When we crossed over the Willamette river on the Hawthorne bridge, an area SADDI hated because of the vibration from passing cars and buses, she moved faster than ever before. Even though she walked with her belly close to the sidewalk, she was ready to get home. When we did arrive home, SADDI drank so much cold fresh water and went straight to bed. A few hours later, as i was getting ready for bed, i asked SADDI if she wanted to go for a walk. Normally she jumped at the chance for an even walk, but that night, she raised her head, giving me a look like i was crazy, and put her head back down on the pillow. i cuddled up next her and was fast asleep. The next morning SADDI was ready for a walk and she stood on the grass for what seemed like several minutes just going to the bathroom. As for the election, i didn't win. But i'm confident the votes i did receive were because of SADDI.
